President with Character

Character - Moral or ethical strength.
Moral - Conforming to standards of what is right or just in behavior; virtuous
ethical- (adj) Being in accordance with the accepted principles of right and wrong that govern the conduct of a profession

Aaron Burr lost the presidency to Thomas Jefferson cause Alexander Hamilton spoke about Aaron Burrs character to the House of Representatives. Aaron Burr retaliated against A. Hamilton and challenged him to a duel. Burr killed Hamilton cause Hamilton felt it was immoral to kill another human being and he did not fire his weapon.

Select a Question to ponder and explain:
a. Do you think Burr and some president "want'a be's" want to be president just to feed their ego? What character does a person like this seem to have?
b. Would you want your president to exhibit all the above qualities? Give an example of one of these qualities.
c. How does a person acquire good character, good morals, and be ethical?

  • (C) They aquire good character by being themselves, and by being themselves they dont act like anybody else. Having good morals means conforming to standards of what is right or just in behavior; or virtious. Being ethical means in accordance with the accepted principles of right and wrong that govern the conduct of a profession.The whole point in the aaron burr case is to show the freedom of speech and being free! thanks.

  • I think Burr and president want-to-be's want to be president just to feed their ego. You could tell Burr was all about his ego because he killed Hamilton thinking it would help his reputation. Apparently it didn't. But there are a lot of people that want to be president or whatever just to be noticed; to help their ego. Ego isn't everything!!!

  • yes.I think I would want my president to have all of the qualities that you exhibit.Because I think that being ethical is a good qualitie to have.So is having character is a great qualite.And that is what I think.

  • C. I think that you can still do something ethical, and still have good morals. Like to say your friend steels a car, well it doesn't necesseraly have to be like steeling a car but it could be punching someone in the face, it could still be for a good cause, they can still be a good person or cristian. They probably hit them cause the criticizied them or their family.

  • I think that Burr and other presidents only want to be president just to feed their ego. Burr only wanted to be president so that people would recognize him for being president. All Burr wanted was the fame of being president. I think it was right for Hamilton to say all those thing s about Burr. It all also may be true.

  • B.-Yes, I would like our president to show all those qualities, and I think he does. An example of one of these qualities, moral, is not giving up and thinking that you'll always fail. You have to believe and not have an attitude that says "Oh we can't do this" or whatever.

  • I have a question about this...Why did Burr have to wait until AFTER he was not vice-president to do kill him...because eather way he was going to get punishments and lose popularity so it would have probally been the same if he did it while he was vice-president.

  • I pick (c),a good person acquires good character, good morals and being ethical, by just acting like themselves. A person can be ethical by not having a problem with the principles of right or wrong. They can get good morals by beliving what is right and what is wrong.

  • You do good things to get good morals. You fight for your country to have victorious sayings to say. You write constitutions to geet freedom. You have to have good character to be a good president. If you don't then nobody will pick you for the next term.

  • I think that you get character by your family and friends but also yourself. I think you must set goals if you want to succeed in your life.

  • To have good character and morals you should have friends who are very religous. Good peir pressure would help you out alot because what happens if a guy comes up and tells you to steal from others. they put you under pressure. You need to put yourself under good pressure.

  • I would want my president to exhibit all good qualities. One major quality would be a good moral. I think that a president with a good moral could help the country more than someone with a bad moral. A president with a good moral would work hard to do what is right for the country. He would not do what he thought was best for him.

  • What I think about acquiring a good character is to be trustable. A good be mean that when you have a chance to do something wrong and you choose not to. You might have not done it because it was against the law; or maybe because you were just keeping a promise. That is what I think of a good character.

  • You achieve good character, morals and such from your parents. If your parents teach you about God, or another religion, then they are teaching you how to be respectful in religion. Your parents or guardians teach what's wrong from right. So if you turn out to be a drug addict, then maybe you didn't get enough attention.

  • I think you build up your character by doing what you think is right. I think building up your character means that you're your own person and you are yourself. The people around you can influence you by how you act. If you hang out with people that are going to lead you in the wrong way then your character is not going to be as good as it was. Because people are going to see you as a bad person and they're not going to want to hang out with you or anything like that. Your character is who you are. What you are known for doing or being. The better your character is then the more respect you have from others.

  • I think that it is a. Because Burr was all about ego, because if he wasn't he would have never cared that Hamilton said all of that stuff about him, and he wouldn't have challenged him to a dual

  • Yes, I think Aaron Burr is a “want’ a be”; and I think he wanted to feed his ego it shows that Aaron Burr has way less Character than Alexander Hamilton. Another reason is that Alexander Hamilton has more Character than Aaron Burr because he did not even fire his gun, and what is real important is Alexander Hamilton Forgave Aaron Burr.

  • A person acquires good character and good morals is by doing something good. They also have to be trusted. The person that trusts you would know that you will do something right the first time you do it.

    I would like my president to have these qualities. One I would want him to defiantly have is good morals. I would know I could trust him when he makes decisions for me and my country.

  • A person aquires good character by doing good deeds. Say a person lies to you abuot something are you going to trust them again? I don't think so, you'll probably judge their character as bad. Now say someone gives you directions whin your lost, you will probably judge their character as good.
