I Swear on the Bible?

From George Washington to the present, every President has been sworn into office by placing his hand on the Bible and then taking the oath.
Potential wintesses place their hand on a Bible and then take the oath to tell the "Truth and nothing but the Truth"

a. Why should this precedent (practice) be continued?
b. What would happen if a person does not believe in the Bible, should they swear on something else?
c. What if the person believes in another religion, should another holy book be used?

  • Yes people should put their hand on the Bible to be sworn into whatever. That is like promising God that you will do what you said you will do. If they are not Christian then it should'nt bother them that they have to do that. It is just a book to them. But to Christians it means a lot.

  • In the Bible, it says not to swear on anything INCLUDING the Bible itself. Therefore, Christians should not be forced to swear on the Bible. People who don't believe in the Bible will have no qualms about swearing on the Bible, so that means that forcing them to swear on the Bible would be pointless as well. And we can't make others swear on their holy books if we aren't going to swear on ours. The entire process of swearing on a book is pointless, because even people who believe in the Bible can lie whether or not they put their hands on it...
