Second Opinion

October 27, 2005

Welcome Canadian friends

We may feel that we live in a small world; going to school every day, seeing our friends, watch TV, etc...... With the means of the computer and internet our so called small world can definitely reach outside to points of unknown. These blogs that have been posted for the past several months have been read by a number of people throughout the United States. Yesterday I heard from a very innovative teacher Mr. Clarence Fisher in Canada. I know that I can learn from him. He has given his students the Second Opinion web site so that they could occasionally blog also. This will be very interesting even thou the two countries are located near each other we do have different opinions on a number of social and political issues. Hopefully we can have a better understanding of each other with this means of communication.

Rick McCaw

Topic for the day is: What would you really like to know from our new friends in Canada? and why?

  • In your malls, do you have the same name brand stores as we do? Such as, Aeropostale and American Eagle? What sorts of stores do you have? How much would an average pair of jeans cost?

  • I want to know how cold it is. I'm not interested in any political stuff. You can find out anything about Canada on the internet, but it makes it seem real when you receive the information from a person. Can you go snowboarding; or is there not any snow?

  • What I would like to know from Canda is what their money look like. Also if they have any restaurants like Red Lobster or anything like that. But the most important thing that I would want to know is what is their history.
Like what happened, how was is formed and what was the most important thing of their past.

  • Hi!
Food cost roughly around the same as in the U.S. We drive the same cars as the U.S. The approprate age of drinking is 18. We do have Burger King and McDonalds, but we do not have White Castle. No, we do not have the same clothing brands as the U.S. We have stores such as Bluenotes and Bootlegger. A good pair of jeans usually costs around $65.00. In the winter it is usually around -45 degrees celcius. We can go snowboarding here and there is usually a lot of snow. We do have resturants such as Red Lobster. We do have mexican food. My favourite food is Tortellini. It is noodles covered in this delicious sauce! We speak English in language. Yes, we do play football and basket-ball here. There are a lot of forests in Canada. Thanks for asking!

  • HEY GUYS,
I would ask them do they have the same brand of clothes like Mudd or L.E.I, or Rave? Does your one dollar bill count as a one dollar bill, do you guys have the same mall stores as us such as Claires, Aeropostale, American Eagle, Hollister. If you could live in America would you. Do you guys follow the American President, or does Canada have their own President? I've been to Canada, but the only thing I went there for is to see Niagra Falls, and we could use American money.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at Wednesday, November 02, 2005 8:14:00 AM

  • Hey everybody!
Don't you want to ask us any questions about Texas besides what a PS3 is? It's a Play Station 3, but what's a PSP? How big are your malls? Do ya'll say ya'll? Or do ya'll say you guys. We only say ya'll. Well, somebody write back...please!

Also it's really cold here it gets to like minus 40 degrees celcius. I don't know what that is Fareinhieght. Ask your teacher he should know. We also say you guys not y'all. We don't have a president we have a Prime Minister. It was a girl at one time That's why I don't see why girls can't be presidents. We are supposed to have equality. Lately in class we have been learning about the Iraq war going on. It's been going on for a long time. I think you guys should leave because a whole bunch of people are dieing for no reason. I think we should ahve peacekeepers there though. Well if you have anymore questions just ask and we'll answer. Bye.

No, we don't have enough snow here to go ski-dooing but we have lots of lakes and stuff so we go tubing, skiing, swimming, or boating. I'm glad it's not really cold here because during the summer we can go to the beach or the pool and tan (so a lot of us have good tans!) And NO we don't eat rattlesnake! That's gross!!! But I love seafood and Mexican food. My favorite places to eat are Red Lobster and Papacita's. Well that's all for now!

  • Hi. There is no time difference between Texas and where we live(Manitoba). I just phoned up my auntie to ask her. Anyways lonnies well they are bills they are coins just bigger and gold(I think). Like dmes and nickles and quaters. Our five dollar bills are called 5 dollar bills. We also have $2.00 coins. They are called twonies. I don't know how to spell it. But it's pronounced 2 nies basically. Well in the summer we have lots of places to go swimming and boating. We also get good tans but in the winter it get's to be like -40 degrees. Instead we go ice fishing, ski-dooing and skating etc.. It's like really fun. Oh and I know we difinitely have chinese food. The places probably are called different though but it's really good. Well bye write back soon.
