Corporal punishment in schools

Should the use of corporal punishment (paddling) of students be band in shcools? Explain your position

27 Comments:

  • Yes! I think corporal punishment should be band in schools unless the crime is really bad. Students shouldn't be paddled for small things like not turning in their homework or not participating in class, but if they do something drastic then yes they should be paddled. If it's not something drastic then the school should let the parents do the punishing.

  • Yes, I think it should be banned because it really doesn't do any good. A punishment would be taking away something that they really liked. If they get paddled, they're just like, "So what? It's not like it really even hurts!" Also, the paddling doesn't teach them a lesson, but it makes them mad at the teacher. If they are mad at the teacher, then they will continue to goof off just to make the teacher mad in return.

  • Yes I do think that corporal punishment should continue. Because if you don't do anything about what the student did, then they will go out and do it again, because they probably thnk that is they do something than nothing will happen, then your school will be out of hand. So if you do something about what they did and you hit them hard enough then they will learn their lesson, but id you hit them hard enough to give them a bruise on their butt, then no it shouldn't continue.

  • Yes, i think that paddling should be in schools because if the student does somerthing like smoking in the bathroom or selling drugs at school then i think it should be worse then paddling but that is the schools announcement. But if it is like a little thing like a verble fight then i think that the school should call the parents and have the parents come up and take care of them, but i dont think that if you were to get a paeddling from school then you should have bruises!

  • The use of corporal punishment in
school is good. why should people be punished by sending them to ocs or tpc ect. When it teaches them not to do it again. Unless they're the trouble makers in the school that like to get in trouble. Also if the same person gets sent to the office to be punished then they should be sent to ocs.

  • mmormongirl2010, don't you think that corporal punishment takes away from these kids educations??

By Anonymous Anonymous, at Wednesday, October 12, 2005 2:23:00 PM

  • I think it should and it shouldn't. The reason why it should be band is because if the teacher paddled the student so hard that it left bruises on him/her then it should be band. Also, the student's parents should be doing the punishing, not the school. The reason it should not be band is because if the student is being bad to durastic measures then the student should be paddled. Going to OCS doesn't really do anything to them, they will just come back and do it again. So they should get paddled. The student probably got warnings first before getting punished. So it is ok to paddle.

  • I don't think they should band paddling in school. If someone gets in trouble in the classroom and the teacher wants to paddle them or needs to, then they should. I think it helps make the student think about what they did.. It's fun for the other students to hear someone get paddled. I don't think detentions and stuff work all the time.

  • No, because paddling students gives them discipline. Students don't get a lot of that at home, either. Some kids want discipline because they know that if someone is disciplined them then they care for them. Paddling also mean that is easier on the teacher.

  • To ks_tvu: When you say "taking away from these kids educations," what do you mean? They are taking away from their own educations by goofing off in class and getting in trouble. The teachers are only trying to stop them, so that they can teach the rest of the class.

  • "mmormongirl2010 said...
These kids should be in school to get an education not to be shaken of their beliefs. Since my children go to a Public School, I'm allowing them to say under God, but I don't encourage it. With the word "under God" in the pladge, then they cannot concentrate on the true meaning of being at school and getting an education."

    To:ugtwirlgirl2010
This is why i wrote this statement, if they think that the pledge and saying "Under God," is harming their education, and then say that corporal punishment is just wonderful... it's kind of contradictory! I completely support both, it's biblical... Discipline and serving the Creator God, Jehovah, Jesus Christ!

  • corporal punishments should keep going because if your kids are doing something wrong and you dont care about them enough to punish them or do something about it whos going to do it for you? and also if your kids keep doing it over and over than im pretty sure you would be wooping them to. because im pretty sure if you were a teacher you would be saying woop them so they will shut up! because its easy for you to say dont woop my kids but if your kids act like they do at school you would probably be wooping them to.

  • im with ks_tvu you cant say that under god is taking away education when paddling your kid is taking even more time! DUH!!!!!!!!DUH!!!!!! DUH!!!!!! THINK WHY DONT YA!

  • To superstar118: Well, think of it this way. When a criminal does something bad, don't they have to be punished too? Otherwise, they would just go on doing crime! Well, in the classroom, if a kid is acting up and it isn't stopped, then they will just keep acting up!

  • I wasn't saying I wasn't for corporal punishment, I am, if you re-read my post you would see that... however, I'm saying that you can't say "under God," is taking away from your childs education, it's causing so much turmoil.. etc.. and then say corporal punishment is totally not keeping them from their education. In school it takes two seconds MAYBE to say "Under God." It takes 5 minutes to punish someone, because you've got to go get another teacher to witness it, etc.. get your paddle, take them to the hall, give them licks, and the entire class is totally focused on what's going on outside. I believe children should be disciplined.. absolutely, but I also believe children need God, maybe they wouldn't need so much "corporal punishment" if parents would let them alloy God in their life.

  • Yeah, I think kids should be disaplined if they do something very wrong. They should be able to go home and confess their wrong doings to their parents and then be paddled or given their punsment at home and at school.

    ***ME***

By Anonymous Anonymous, at Friday, October 28, 2005 9:42:00 AM

  • YEAH!!! Kids should not be paddled at school because when they get home they are gonna get it when they get home. The punishing should be by the parent. Paddling students does not teach them a lesson. They will worst because they're mad and want to made the teacher mad.

  • hey ugtwirlgirl2101 YOU CANT SAY THAT SAYING UNDER GOD IS TAKING AWAY EDUCATION WHEN IT ONLY TAKES A HALF A SECOND AND THEN SAY WOOPING YOUR KID IS OK WHEN IT TAKES EVEN MORE TIME TO DO THAT! AND YOUR KIDS OR IF YOUR STILL ARE IN SCHOOL NEED GOD THEN YOU NEED WOOPING! AND ALSO YOU OR YOUR KIDS WOULDNT PROBABLY HAVE TO GET WOOPINGS IF YOU HAD GOD IN YOUR LIFE.

  • It shouldn't matter if swats were allowed. Students shouldn't reach the point that they need swats. But yet, students get them everyday.
I think the matter of swats should be resolved at home.So basically what I'm trying to say is that I think we have a discipline problem in the u.s.

  • I think that corpal punishment is very much needed. The U.S is falling because of broken familys. Even though most people don't think that much of it, it will greatly effect the future of the U.S. If the homes in America don't take care of punishing thier kids then it is up to the teachers. God's intention was for corpal punishment his book, the Bible, tells us that.

  • I think if you dont turn in homework and things like that you should be paddled.and also i think it should be band becaus if they get paddled then they get mad and dont pay attention to any thing.

  • Corporal punishment should be removed from schools. I remember growing up in the 70's in the US and paddling was very very common. There were times when the whole class would get paddled for making noise or some other trivial offense. The teachers doing the paddling hit very hard and appeared to take pleasure in the act. I remember our gym teacher paddling in the locker room when guys were in their jock straps (there was a time when jocks were required for gym. That essentially getting spanked on the bare bottom. What reason could be given to justify that. Any how in a modern civilized society there is no place for one human being harming another.
