Passing the grade!

  • Should passing an end of course test be required to receive credit on a course that you have attended all year.
  • or should having a 70 average or better be enough to pass the course
  • or do you have a better idea on what should be considered passing the course?

  • I don't believe one should have to pass an end of course test in order to recieve credit in the course. On these tests, it cannot possibly cover everything you have gone over in class. These tests contain selective material from the semester and cannot possible cover everything. It might highlight several things that were not covered as much in class as the teacher should have, be too specific to remember, or just contain material that may be an overall weak spot in the students' memories. I think having a 70 for a total grade in the class from the progressive work for the semester is sufficient enough for a teacher to give the student credit for the course. Consider the students - some do not take tests well. If they know that their whole year of attending that class day after day, worksheet after worksheet, depends on two semester tests, they may panic and bomb them.

  • I have mixed emotions. Because some kids really do try as hard as they can, but they just can't pass. But some kids have the capability to pass but they just choose not to. So I do believe that you should have to pass, but if ypu just can't then I think thagt you should take tutoring and do some extra credeit things in tutoring to pass. But you should always try your best to pass and succeed.

  • Heyy, here in Snow Lake you have to have 50% to pass a course. At the end we take exams we have mid terms (exams in the middle that we have to take). Then finals which we can get exempted from. Exempted means not doing them. If we ahve 80% or higher we get exempted. In grade 6, 7 and 8 our exams are worth about 10% of our mark. Then in highschool they are worth 25% of our final mark.

  • I think that if you are failing a class that you have attended all year, then you should have to take an end of course test. Although, if you are passing the class then there shouldn't be any reason for you to take the test. A 70 average is okay, but I'm a straight 'A' student, so I like to get 95's or better. Some are able to comprehend information better than others.

Our school is the same as yours but I don't know about all the percents and everything. I just know we have mid-term exams and final exams, but we have TAKS to. That's Texas Asessment of Knowledge and Skills. Do have anything like that?

  • I think Tatortot is right!
She has a point. Some people don't care if they pass or not. Other people try really hard and still can't pass. So I think that anyone who can't pass the test and is willing to do extra credit to pass the grade, it should be offered to them.

  • No reesespeices we dont have TAKS or whatever they are called... which is a good thing.. less tests less chances of less smarter people failing.... well that's all bye and for one think I think lots of you are very rude... oh and if people don't believe in your religion don't go and spazz on them...

  • I think Nasya is write about not completely freaking out on people who dont believe in your religion, I mean I myself am a christian (although I have to admit I have been a little over the top with some things to witch I apologize for.)Can you honestly believe that critisizing what they believe is going to do them any good? It would just plain frustrate me and I wouldnt really want to hang around you. So if you dont mind, try cooling it down a bit O.K.?
