The Supreme Court is hearing a case that would allow the medical profession to assist a terminal ill person end their life. So should a doctor be allowed to help a person actually commit suicide?
No, the Dr. should not be allowed to physically help a terminally ill person assit suicide, because the Dr. is there to help them not to encourage them to kill themselves. The kind of Dr. like that should be done the same way as they are letting there patient do. If the Dr. reccomends that the patient actually commit suicide then the Dr. should be treated the same way as he is treating the patient.
Yes. Doctor's should be able to do this because, people in major accidents might not want to live and have to deal with pain. That person might only be alive because of life support. I know that I wouldn't want my family seeing me in that state.
I think they should. If someone was on a respirator and they were not every going to get off, then they should take them off the respirator. If they have some other illness and they weren't getting any better then they should be able to if the patient wanted them to. I think the patient or the guardian of the patient should tell the doctor if they want them to help them or not.
I do and do not think that the doctor should be able to assist in helping the terminally ill person commit suicide, becasue if a person is in a lot of pain, and they want to end their own life, then it should be up to them to decide. Yeah their family will miss them a lot, but if they have been in the hospital for X amount of days of months, and they are not getting any better than they should be able to decide for themselves, and not raise the hopital bill for their family. I couldn't kill anybody personally, but others would have no problem doing it. I also think that the doctors shouldn't be able to kill somebody, because if you kill a patient, then that is almost the same thing as murdering someone.
I think they should only be allowed to if they have permission from that person. For instance, maybe when they get their driver's liscense, they should sign a form that asks if they would like to have the doctor assist in suicide if they were in a serious car accedent and became terminally ill. They would be required to keep this with them at all times, just like their liscense. This way, if anything like that were to happen, their family could not argue and say, "Well, he wouldn't want that..." and so on.
In some ways yes in some ways no. If the person is very ill and in a lot of pain then it would be the right thing to do. But, if the person is not ill but recovering from the accident then no, the doctor should not help them.
I think that it is not considered assiting suicide unless the person says that they want to kill themselves otherwise its not suicide. Anyways if the person persay is on life support and that person says that they dont want to suffer anymore than I think that the Dr. should be allowed to take them off and let them die. After all it was their choice.
It depends, because if they needed it badly then yes, but if they are just put in a noursing home then no! They should live there life because what if they have like a grandkids party or a daughters party then they will miss it and then the whole family will be upset.
Each day this Jr. High History class is prompted with a Current Event, Amendment, History related or Social issue question that they are to respond to. Each student writes a minimum 5 sentence response in a journal. Some of the best responses have been posted below. Feel free to respond to any of our topics. Just keep it clean. Thanks
