Forwarding email ... is it wrong?

Is forwarding email to a second or third person without the first person's (originators) consent a violation of one's right to privacy and should be considered illegal. Presently it is wrong to record a persons speech and then use it without his/her permission.

  • I don't think that forwarding emails is a break in privacy, therefore, it shouldn't be illegal. How are you going to prevent people from forwarding them? Just because it's made illegal, doesn't mean it won't be done. I think that if you don't want emails forwarded in fear of losing privacy, then don't send them. Oh yeah, and I don't think people should cuss on this site... if they can't spell or use correct grammar, they are probably not old enough. :)

  • I agree that is rude to take someone else e-mail and send it to people with out asking that person first. Although if the e-mail says froword this to other people including the one who sent it to you it would be fine but if it says nothing keep it to yourself and leave it alone.

  • I don't think forwarding e-mails is wrong because people usually tell you in a forwarding e-mail to forward it to other people. Some examples of forwarding e-mail are:
"Forward this to at least 5 other people and your true love will ask you out at 11:11 a.m tomorrow."
I think it would be an invasion of privacy if the e-mail did not say to forward, but other than that forwarding e-mails, I believe is NOT an invasion of privacy.

  • Yah I think that is wrong because it is like plajurism ( how ever you spell that). I would ask their permission first. Becky

  • Well I think forwarding e-mail is fine if its for a lot of poeple to see, but if its something personally you shouldn't send it at all. It could the other person feeling if you send it to other people if tthey only wanted it for you to see it and know else.

  • I think that forwarding emails is okay but its annoying to see all of those peoples email addys when i am trying to read an email. But people usually only forward the emails that say forward this to __ people and ____ will happen to you.

  • I don't think forwarding emails is wrong IF the email is meant for other people's eyes too. But if a person emailed you something personal and you forward it to someone else then it would be wrong.

  • I don't really think it's wrong if it's not something personal. If someone got mad at you and fowarded an email you sent to them that was embarassing or personal to everyone, then it'd be wrong. But if it's just one of those "send this to so many people in 1 hour and something will happen tomorrow" there's nothing really wrong with that.
